  • Explore the colourful world that awaits you when you visit Historic Grimsby Beach, ON..
🎨
This enclave of colourful cabins and cottages line the narrow streets of the town along the southwest shore of Lake Erie.
🎨
These gingerbread houses are painted in an array of vibrant colours and styles.

  • Canada's Oldest Sugar Maple.
🌳
The Comfort Maple tree, located in the heart of Niagara Peninsula, is approximately 500 years old.
This large sugar maple tree is protected and managed by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority to conserve it for its historical and biological significance.
The Comfort family has lived on the land since 1816, and in 1961, the family donated the tree and a small parcel of land around it to @npca_ontario
🌳
Many prominent branches are held together with wires to prevent the tree from splitting and breaking off under its own circumference.

  • Every time we visit Wiarton, we get the Willies.
🐹
(See what I did there?)
📍
Wiarton, Ontario, is the home to "Wiarton Willie," Canada's most famous weather-predicting groundhog.
Around town, you will find several depictions of Willie, including a memorial to the Willies who have served their community so honourably, but have crossed over the rainbow bridge.

  • We took the scenic drive along the coast from Owen Sound to Wiarton around the Georgian Bluffs. Another excellent recommendation that we received for our Grey County road trip.
📍
The views overlooking the waters of Owen Sound and Colpoy's bay leading into Georgian Bay were gorgeous. The water was a beautiful array of blues, with so many great spots to take it in.
🚤
A few spots we checked out were
☕ The Kemble Women's Institute lookout, which included a well-appointed table and tea service overlooking the water.
⛴ The loss of the Jane Miller historical plaque at the Colpoy's Lookout Conservation Area.
⚓ Big Bay: the Stone Skipping Capital of Canada. There are so many flat stones lining the beach, perfect for skipping across the water. Plus, the view of the bay from the dock is beautifully serene.

  • Our weekend visit to Grey County wouldn't be complete without learning a little bit about the county.
Grey Roots Museum & Archives is located just outside of Owen Sound and preserves the history & promotes the heritage of the area.
🌾
The Museum houses several exhibits and collections of artefacts from around Grey County. The Moreston Heritage Village recreates life in the area around 1853, 1885 and beyond when many pioneers settled the area, with guides dressed in period clothing who provide you with information on the buildings, history, and the lives of the people.
📍
The logo and 20foot sculpture design is based on a sheaf of grain. The 5 strands each a different colour represent 5 different elements of Grey County.
Green - forestry
Grey - rocks, minerals, and Escarpment
Red - the people of Grey (the heart)
Yellow - the agriculture and farmlands
Blue - waterfalls, lakes, and rivers of the area

  • Waterfalls Chasers.
🏞
Before we headed out on our weekend adventures, we asked you for advice on things to do, and we got a lot of great suggestions.
One of the best came from a former Tourism officer for Grey County - get the Grey County waterfall 🗺️ map and explore.
📍
Since our hotel was located right beside one of the Waterfalls, that seemed like the perfect focus for our weekend - Bruce Trail and Waterfalls.
🏞
1) Walters Falls
2) Jones Falls
3 & 4) Inglis Falls
5 & 6) Indian Falls
7) Weaver Creek in Harrison Park
8 & 9) McGowan Falls in Durham
And.....
10) Holstein Dam 😒
📍
We skipped Hogg's Falls & Eugenia Falls because we visited them a while back while hiking the Bruce Trail.
.
Some falls are easy to access while others require a bit of a hike, and some are better than others.
