  • Buffalo, you never cease to amaze us.

Every time we visit Buffalo, we find something new to discover and experience.
🏤
While driving around, we came across this vast complex of buildings we had never seen before that looked very Hogwarts-like.
🏰
It appeared abandoned, so we pulled up to check it out. The building is the Richardson Olmsted Campus - built as an asylum for mental health treatment in 1895.
.
The buildings were designed by the acclaimed architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Frederick Law Olmsted designed the grounds. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and named a National Historic Landmark.
.
The building has been (and continues to be) painstakingly renovated and is now home to the Richardson Hotel, a luxury 88-room hotel in this beautiful historic building. The hotel opened at the beginning of March and continues to grow - with work continuing in restaurants, cafes, bars, and more. Great care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the beauty, architecture, and history of this landmark building while providing guests with luxuries and amenities to enhance their guest’s stay.
.
While we did not stay here, we were thrilled to have been given a tour of the primary hotel areas by the front desk manager, Cory, who shared a little history of this beautiful and historic property with us.

  • Do you ever visit cemeteries when you travel?
A trip to a cemetery is like getting a history lesson while you are on vacation, and we try to visit many whenever we travel.
This weekend, while In Buffalo, I suggested we find the grave of Rick James. The famous musician , and “super Freak” singer who was born in Buffalo NY died in 2004, and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. I knew his grave was there, but I was ill-prepared for the number of luminaries who are also resting here.
- Shirley Chisholm - the first black woman to be elected to US Congress and run for the US presidency, and history maker.
- Millard Fillmore - the 13th president of the USA.
- William Fargo - founder of Wells-Fargo and American Express, and the 27th mayor of Buffalo
- Red Jacket (Sagoyewatha) was a Chief of the Seneca Nation and orator who On behalf of his nation, he negotiated with the new United States after the American Revolutionary War,
.
Other sites of interest here include
- The founder of the Buffalo Evening Times - Henry Mack.
- The Blocher Monument - which is sculpture literally within sculpture.
- The Memorial for the Firemen of Buffalo and Erie County
- the Shepherdess
.
They have QR codes at the sites of many of the famous residents in the cemetery where you can learn more about the person, their life, and legacy.

  • It's Showtime!
🪲
through a stroke of luck, we scored some good cheap tickets very last minute to see Beetlejuice at Shea's
🪲
So, it was back for another weekend in Buffalo for an evening of live theatre.
🪲
On the Buffalo star on the walk of fame the only name that we recognized was the great Christine Baranski.
Another Buffalo native, Jeffrey Jones (the original Charles Deetz in the movie) was *not* there.. (IYKYK)

  • Today is Alexander Graham Bell Day.
☎️
Bell was born on March 3, 1847, but this day is observed because it was on March 7, 1876 that he received a patent for “transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically,”.
On March 10, he uttered the now-iconic phrase, “Mr. Watson, please come here.” I wish to see you,” transmitted via a transmitter.
📞
When The Bell family moved to Canada from Scotland, they purchased a farm along the Grand River in Brantford, ON.
📞
On July 26, 1874, he invented the telephone here. The following summer, he wrote the first copy of his telephone patent plans. And, in August 1876, he made the world's first successful long-distance telephone call between Brantford and Paris, Ontario. Because all of this happened here, Brantford became known as “The Telephone City”.¶
☎️
The Bell Homestead is now a historic site, and the museum is open for visitors Tues - Sat 9 am -4 pm.
🏡
We were driving around exploring Brantford and knew Alexander Graham Bell day was coming up, so we stopped by to check it out.
🏡
You can find the Bell Homestead at
94 Tutela Heights Rd, Brantford, ON N3T 1A4

  • We made another quick visit to the old hometown of Crystal Beach today.
The town has seen a number of exciting changes, and growth lately and we wanted to check them out.
🎢
They have a new light-up town sign on the beach.
A few murals around the Hot dog alley business section of town,
Vibrantly painted buildings.
Some really cool shops and businesses along the HDA.
There is a cute little bakery in town making gorgeous pastries (cakes, macarons, pies, cupcakes cookies, and tarts) We finally got there at a reasonable time of day before they sold out. And picked up some butter tarts for our #buttertartquest.
.
There is also a brand boutique hotel right on the corner (at the Derby Sq sign) which features individual uniquely themed rooms. We didn't stay there, but maybe one day.

  • A couple more shots on the Buffalo Hunt.
🦬
A fun buffalo eating ice cream statue at @kingcondrells ice cream and confection.
And a #buffalove Mural "You know you're from Buffalo if...."
🦬
Just when we thought.... ."there couldn't possibly be many more" and gave up looking..... Bam! There's another one.
You could spend an entire day (maybe more) looking for all the Buffalo statues and murals around the city.

  • There are several examples of architect Frank Lloyd Wright's work around Buffalo.
Buffalo has more Frank Lloyd Wright structures than any other city in America besides Chicago.
🏪
None is more impressive and well-preserved than the Darwin Martin house in the Parkside district of Buffalo.
(a short distance from the Buffalo Zoo.
🏠
The Martin house is a prairie-style design and was built for a wealthy business executive Darwin D Martin (friend and supporter of Wright).
🏫
You can take guided tours of the house and grounds, and learn more about FLW & DDM, as well as wright's connection to Buffalo..
.
Be sure to take a stroll through the Parkside neighborhoods and marvel at many other impressive structures nearby.
With so many gorgeous buildings within the city, Buffalo is a must for lovers of architecture and design.
